Confirmed from Little Mountain Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 13 mentions

“It's gorgeous, there are a bunch of trails of varying difficulty and it's usually not super busy, although I do usually go during the week.”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 4 mentions

“The park is dog friendly, which is a major bonus, but requires dogs to be on leash.”

This beautiful park feels much more remote than the few minutes it takes to get here from downtown Mount Vernon. There are pros and cons to visiting, however. Pros: As a biology student researching fungi, this park is a true delight in terms of finding unique specimen.

This is my fave, relatively close to home place to hike. It's gorgeous, there are a bunch of trails of varying difficulty and it's usually not super busy, although I do usually go during the week. I highly recommend it. Make sure you drive all the way to the viewpoint at the top!

There is something for everyone on this little mountain! Endless trails with varying difficulty levels, plenty of biking areas, amazing views, even a dark and light side of the mountain depending on the time of day!

★★★★★ — Farwa , Mar 2024

Easy hike from the trailhead to the North and pickering viewpoint observations. You get a great view of Mt. Vernon, San juan Islands, and surrounding mountain ranges. Plenty of mountain biking trails that mix together with hiking. So be alert on the trail. Dogs are welcome with leashes.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • Distance10 mi as reported — check whether that is one way or a round trip before you commit. Long enough for a real long run.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
