This is our go to place for meteor shower watching, comet watching, and recently the Aurora! It's a quick drive from the city and then a short hike to the summit that can be done in the dark. The top has plenty of flat spots to spread out and hang out while looking at the stars.
This hike is amazing in the spring and June before the mountains turn yellow. We were surrounded by green rolling hills and mountains and lots of wildflowers as well. The out and back trail took us just under 2 hours to complete. We only saw a couple of other hikers along the way it wasn't super trafficked.
You will find spectacular views down Emigration Canyon and South towards Mt. Aire. You can also take a hike from the parking area and see some awesome vistas of Little Dell Reservoir. Plenty of wildlife including several deer. This is the road to Zion, so follow the Pioneers to the last summit on the trail.
Parking for this hike is across the road and has bathrooms. Very steep for a little bit at the beginning but then is fairly flat with some incline here and there. I’m not sure how far this trail extends, I only went 2 miles and turned around. Not much shade.
