Confirmed from The Living Room Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Starting point to a route leading to an overlook with sandstone slabs set up to resemble recliners.
What runners say about The Living Room Trailhead
“Beautiful hike which ends in its namesake "living room" due to the various rocks set up to act as chairs and couches for hikers.”
“Not much shade along the trail unless you go early morning when the sun is behind the mountains to the East.”
Another great trail. There's street parking at the trailhead, there are no visible signs giving trail directions, which can be off-putting. As you go up the well traveled, moderately strenuous path, there are NO signs and many more narrow trails taking off from the main path, confusing, but we don't care, we just want…
Great little 2.3 mi hike with a little incline. Great hike for kids and families! The way down may be harder for smaller kids but totally doable. Gorgeous views and a nice hike throughout the trail. Best to have the alltrails app on to ensure you know where you're going.
It’s pretty hot walking through the first half of the trail but once you start getting towards the top it feels amazing! The view of SLC is amazing and the breeze felt wonderful! I brought my pup and she loved it.
Lots of trails so Mapping is recommended. Plenty of people on the trails. Went to Mt Wire via the living room. Came down along the Ridgeline. VERY steep that way. Had to side step some of it. Really great loop
Trail conditions & character
“The top of the trail had a nice view of the city and there is an optional path up further but significantly more difficult to climb.”

“Unless you have kids and/or dogs, I recommend doing the loop that comes out by the Natural History Museum instead of the out and back.”

“The main trail gets all muddy during snow melting time, the ridge-front trails are in much better conditions for getting to the living room.”

“From the living room, keep going up(some light scrambling may needed) and you will discover more exciting “living sites”.”
“Then when things level out you end up climbing through the ridge tops with tricky footing.”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
