Confirmed from Lydick Bog's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Lydick Bog Nature preserve is easy to get to and it’s entrance well marked to help find it.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“It was serene and peaceful, but it was dried out in September.”

This place is a short trip it off the interstate so it's a nice place to rest your legs on a long commute. The sign I didn't see coming the opposite direction, but once I turned around and headed back it was very clear. There's a green sign alerting you about the bog parking. Beautiful, very peaceful and serene.

Special place close to South Bend, with hiking trails and an accessible boardwalk over looking the bog. A variety of ecosystems from hardwoods to prairie. A pavilion with picnic tables is near the parking lot

★★★★★ — Kristine , Jul 2022

Nice place to take a walk. There is an easy path to follow for about a mile and a half walk. There are several platforms that extend our over wetlands and a small lake to give a better view. While walking you need to be careful of the tree roots that extend across the walking path.

★★★★★ — Dave , Oct 2022

Lydick Bog Nature preserve is easy to get to and it’s entrance well marked to help find it. The parking area is very ample with a large picnic pavilion. A newer trail on the west side goes to an elevated boardwalk that reaches out over the bog. Unfortunately, this trail is not on some of the maps.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
