Confirmed from Matthews / Winters Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Overall it is a great, moderately tough, hike that is good for people of all ages.”

Desert terrain featuring huge red rocks. You can even hike into Red Rocks from the trail. This is a great place to go when it's wet or cold in other parts of Colorado. There is not a lot of shade. One of my favorite places to trail run because of the gorgeous views and unique rock.

★★★★★ — Benjamin , Jul 2018

Beautiful county park that functions as a backdoor trail system into Red Rocks. All the views and then some with 98% less tourists. Highly recommended for day hikers or trail runners. About 3 miles will get you to the overlook that looks over Red Rocks Amphitheatre, trails are well marked and maintained.

★★★★★ — David , Aug 2019

Easy drive from just about everywhere in Colorado. Ample parking, trail guides available at the entrance. Public restrooms, picnic tables and a rolling creek to check out. Beautiful views, steep trails (at times) and separate trails for mountain bikers. Plus a graveyard with old tombstones to find.

★★★★★ — Chris , Jul 2017

Beautiful, peaceful park (when we went today we didn’t see another soul). There are probably more challenging paths to take than the trail I did, but it’s also great for those like me who aren’t natural athletes! Sweet stream with an equally sweet bridge over it.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
