Confirmed from Rooney Road Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hiking area with trails for all skill levels, bike paths, and a pedestrian bridge.
What runners say about Rooney Road Trailhead
“Awesome MTV trail 👌 the Dakota Ridge is very technical, Red Rocks trail is beautiful, Green Mountain trail was smooth and fast.”
“Nice and easy trail, they are kind of like a loose smooth gravel.”
Been here only once, but always ride across the street. Lovely views, many different trails. All contain large elevation gains. Great place for hiking, running, or biking. Mostly a grinder to get up top. Trails don't get cleared from snow and can be muddy and rutted.
Thanks to Daylight Savings time, I’ve been unable to tackle this trail during the day. Truth be told - it was probably for the best. Lol. The immediate incline is….something!
Great trail head for all levels. Ride to the other parking lot for good beginner ride with some climbing
Wonderful trail for both hiking and biking. Also generally one of the first places to dry after snow!
Trail conditions & character
“If you go left to walk by the freeway (will be rather loud but not impossibly so), you'll come to the Golden Overlook community.”
“Parking is quite ample, and even if there are many cars there, it can be misleading as many people will park there, but may not necessarily be on the trail.”
“It's just a barren hill, but the views of both the city and the mountains from the top are worth it.”
“Start at the Rooney Road Trailhead (bathrooms are located here) and hike up the Green Mountain Trail (go to the left - toward the Box o Rocks Trail).”
“Awesome MTV trail 👌 the Dakota Ridge is very technical, Red Rocks trail is beautiful, Green Mountain trail was smooth and fast.”
