Confirmed from Morgan-Monroe State Forest's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Over 24,000 acres, this hardwood forest offers camping, hiking, hunting & fishing.
What runners say about Morgan-Monroe State Forest
“The landscape is beautiful in the spring and it was a delight to see all of the new flora popping up.”
“It's usually pretty peaceful there, but spring can get a little busy with the mushroom hunters.”
Always had a great time here. The gentleman at the front office Friday was very helpful in answering my questions about which campsites to use, costs, etc that. He recommended Rock Shelter Trail which was amazing! The pictures do not do that trail justice at all!
We hiked a portion of the Low Gap and sectioned hike the Tecumseh down to Bear Lake. Beautiful sunny day in the 50s. Couldn't have been better hiking weather. We started at the MM park headquarters and wow, the nicest hqs I have seen in any Indiana State Forest. Trails were well marked.
Did the 3 lakes trail. Lots of elevation changes and is pretty advanced. Took me about 4 hours to do. Make sure to bring spare shoes and socks as you WILL be getting wet. There isn't much signage, but there are white diamonds throughout the trail so you won't get lost. The roads going into the park are pretty rough.
Only 1 hr from Indianapolis. Awesome rock formations in the canyon. Many campsites for overnight camping. Some very challenging trails due to elevation changes. We camped by a beautiful little creek. Plenty of deadwood for fires.
