Confirmed from Mt Tammany Red Dot Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Challenging but doable hike with a rock-climbing trail up to a summit view of the Delaware River.
What runners say about Mt Tammany Red Dot Trail
“The trail is challenging but manageable, with a steady incline leading up to stunning summit views overlooking the Delaware River winding through the mountains.”
“The trail is well marked.”
“Came on a weekday in October, it was quiet, friendly hikers along the way informed me it's crazy busy in the summer on weekends!”
Had so much fun here! Challenging climb up the red dot trail and a long beautiful descent down the blue dot. Views up top are so absolutely beautiful! Bring some food and some water, make sure to take breaks to catch your breath and save your energy. Red + Blue back to lot is about 4.5 miles. You'll climb about 1300ft.
Beautiful hike, definitely not an easy one, with lots of rocks and pretty good incline. We went up red dot trail and came down the blue trail. The vista at the top of the mountain was gorgeous. We were lucky to see some good fall colors too. Would recommend hiking poles and knee support for people with weak knees.
Breathtaking Views and a Fantastic Hike! The Delaware Water Gap is truly a gem on the border of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The Mount Tammany Trail offers one of the most rewarding hikes in the area.
Extreme elevation hike with exceptional scenery 👌. Highly recommend this one if you are up for a challenge. There are two parking lots outside, we were able to find a spot around 9 am, although people coming later in the day were struggling to find spots.

“The Ascent & The Peak The hike up is challengingly rewarding, but once you reach the summit, the views are utterly mesmerizing.”

“The trail is not for begginers 😅 if you need to complete all the way to the top, there are areas that are rocky and very steep.”

“Pet-friendly but be prepared to carry your pup on some turns.”
“Make it a loop and do the red dot to the peak and take the blue trail down.”

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work

- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
