Confirmed from Overlook Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Relaxed hiking spot with a clear lake and rocky shores, plus trails and picnic spots.
What runners say about Overlook Park
“The park is relatively clean well maintained; there's sign of some construction going on but not messy.”
“There’s beautiful Bass and Panfish, but these boogers are smart!”
“You NEED to have a cart if you want to bring a grill or canopy by the water.”
Great place for rock hounds, nature lovers, a little fishing and a good hike. There are great trails by the water of Lake Georgetown and public restrooms for those moments when nature calls! Don't hike without paying attention though. We went off the trail and did meet an unexpected guest - a Diamondback Rattler!
I enjoyed this park. Great view of the lake. Awesome place to go swimming, fishing , hiking or boating. The lake is large. Various areas to park and pull up to the water. Plenty of parking space available. Bathrooms available for use. Shaded area to get cooled down from the sun.
So, this park is not the most accessible park there is. You NEED to have a cart if you want to bring a grill or canopy by the water. Also, the edge is rock, so you need weights to hold said canopy down (no stakes). Because there is no actually "beach", you have to jump or slide off of the rock edge.
With today's weather being cooler and cloudy, I decided to go somewhere for hiking. A nearby spot Overlook Park was selected since it offered a decent hiking distance plus a water view. The park is relatively clean well maintained; there's sign of some construction going on but not messy.
Trail conditions & character
“A nice, local place for a quick 30 hike, a nice sunset view of the lake, a spot for a Summer swim in the cove.”
“The reason for for starts is that while parking is good it's rather limited, and the park is only open dawn to dusk and no weekends.”
“At the restroom I headed down toward the lake; the view was nice and the cooler breeze on the face was pleasant beyond words.”
“Overlook Park offers hiking, fishing, swimming ( this includes places where your dog can go swimming, too!”
“You NEED to have a cart if you want to bring a grill or canopy by the water.”
“You can walk along the rocky cliff that hangs over the water.”
“So, this park is not the most accessible park there is.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
