Confirmed from Palmetto Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Palmetto Trail
“All in all it was a great change of scenery, peaceful, and an easy hike.”
“Easy walk and pretty good biking but I would recommend a full suspension bike if possible.”
This is actually the Wateree Passage of the Palmetto Trail (not the Swamp Fox trail). Only took in the last half of the Passage. I thought it was fantastic! First, a walk through farmland over the old railway bed towards the Wateree River. Then, you cross the Ed Sellers bridge, a retired drawbridge, over the Wateree.
We wanted to start enjoying what the Charleston area has to offer in outdoor recreation. So we researched some places and the Palmetta Trail popped up. We had no idea we were so close to something as grand as this. We started small by doing a 6 mile track.
This trail section was Peak to Prosperity passage. Easy walk and pretty good biking but I would recommend a full suspension bike if possible. Also I wish there weren't so many sections that aren't continuous. Makes it hard to find the next passage.
Fantastic walk through the woods. Very secluded, didn’t see any other people. It does need more signs

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
