Confirmed from Park Point Trail Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Park Point Trail Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (88 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“Lots of great views, fairly flat trail, pretty sandy (loose) at times but lots of interesting sites.”

Great hike with plenty of parking. I hiked the 2.2 miles out and 2.2 miles back. You start by the airport, walk through an old growth pine forest, along the shoreline, past the remnants of an old lighthouse and the an old building covered in graffiti before reaching the inlet and lighthouse.

Really great spot to view Lake Superior and the bay. Plenty of parking along the entire stretch. There are trails and boardwalks to cross the dunes, and then the beach is really clean. Nice waves on the day I visited. Didn’t have time to hike the trail but if I had another day here I would have done so. Next time!

Really enjoyed this hike! Be aware though that parts of the path are deep sand. So if you have any lower joint issues you might have some issues. Go around where you can. I did see a wee bit of poison ivy, but didn't affect the walk. Paths are well worn, occasionally narrow though. The ruins are fun to see.

One of the best hikes in the area! Great variety of scenery and surprise old structures. Also some fun geocaches along the route. Only thing that could be better is if everyone would keep their dog on a leash.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
