What runners say about Penn-Roosevelt State Park
A smaller park with18 rustic campsites, some being walk-ins. There's also one group campsite with a new structure being built. (see photo). The CCC Camp Monument reminds visitors about how the park came about. Other activities are just outside the park in the surrounding Rothrock State Forest.
Hiked in from Tussey Mountain via Shingle Path and Mid-State Trail with Boy Scout Troop 245. Camped overnight and enjoyed exploring the dam and spillway the next day. Unseasonably warm and sunny for November! The new organized group tenting area is excellent!
This place is really nice. I think it's a shame that there is not enough money to repair the dam and bring the lake back up to its original level. It's been about a year now that the running water doesn't work. I got an email stating that it would be fixed the week after Memorial Day weekend. Seriously?
I was a young teenager when i first visited. It has a small lake that had to be drained down due to the dam's structural integrity being compromised. But the lake has a very healthy population of native brrok trout. For hiking, the Mid State Trail runs through the park and there are smaller trails nearby.
