Confirmed from Railway Tunnel at Cherry Run Road's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hiking and biking trails lead to a historic, off-the-beaten-path tunnel.
What runners say about Railway Tunnel at Cherry Run Road
“It is a beautiful nature walk or ride.”
“A lovely and easy walk through the old tunnel at Poe Paddy State Park.”
Beautiful nature area. BUT be extra cautious of rattle snakes. We walk this trail several times a year and this past year two in our party almost stepped on one a little over 4 feet long that was curled up along the edge of the path hidden in leaves.
You cannot get to this by using the gps in your phone. You can get to Cherry run Rd by your phone but not the trail and tunnel. Follow cherry run Rd to the end, turn right, it says dead end but take it anyway. You will come to a clearing and you can park there. There is no sign that says cherry run trail.
Farther from my house than Google maps originally stated, plus had to drive mountain roads to get there which made it take a bit longer, but the drive was scenic and so was the hike. I think it would have been better to bike it, but my boyfriend and I had fun either way.
A beautiful trail to bike ride. Scenic, easy ride for all levels of riders.
Trail conditions & character
“legends have it there is a toll collected by a small dog named Bell.”
“With the fall colors it's a nice hike and it's flat as far as I've gone.”
