Confirmed from Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain Open Space's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Nature preserve with a picnic shelter & hiking/biking trails, plus an overlook & information boards.
What runners say about Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain Open Space
“Rabbit Trail was a clean, well-maintained loop trail that offered a pleasant mix of scenery and activity.”
“Beautiful views of the front range on the western half of the loop and sweeping views of the flatland and lakes on the eastern half of the trail.”
“During our hike, we encountered mountain bikers, people walking their dogs, and even a few visitors relaxing on benches with a good book, enjoying the peaceful surroundings.”
“Definitely family friendly hiking!”
Well maintained trails lead to great views of the front range and surrounding plains! It’s a bit sad seeing the sprawl, but at least this place will preserve open space for generations to come. The parking lot is well laid out but always full when the weather is nice.
Casual hike (not steep), excellent view and lots of cute looking prairie dogs that don’t seem scared to step in front of a moving vehicle. They say there’s quite a bit of wild life that can be spotted here. The biggest concern for me were the rattle snakes (not a fan at all).
I love that there are different types of trail terrain to walk on: flat, clear path loops and also rocky/natural incline paths to walk on. Beautiful views! There were lots of people on the trail with Longmont being close by. Definitely family friendly hiking!
We did a mid-morning hike along the Eagle Wind Trail, which is a 2.5 mile loop. It is a moderate hike with a 159 ft. elevation change. Beautiful views of the front range on the western half of the loop and sweeping views of the flatland and lakes on the eastern half of the trail.
