Confirmed from Saugatuck Dunes State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Saugatuck Dunes State Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (2,836 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 14 mentions

“Parking fills up pretty fast, but the beach has so much space to spread out, well worth the (somewhat) scenic hike to the beach.”

Hike from the parking lot on one of four trails of varying lengths to a huge beach. Leashed dog friendly. It was about 70 degrees when we went and the sand was hot in some places on the dunes. Be careful on a hot day with your dog! Lake Michigan was still very cold in late May. The breeze off the water was chilly.

This is definitely the spot to go to if you don’t mind a quick walk. Was about 10-15 minutes from my car to the beach. Parking fills up pretty fast, but the beach has so much space to spread out, well worth the (somewhat) scenic hike to the beach.

Wow, what a gem of a place in Saugatuck. We were staying very near at the Fern Valley Cottage just 5 minutes away. Our Airbnb host highly recommended Saugatuck Dunes State Park and we were very happy we visited.

We stopped here for a quick visit just to pop in for a look at the dunes and lakeshore. The beach trail is a gorgeous walk but longer than we anticipated. We were still glad we took the trail and was gifted with a siting of a doe and two fawns crossing the trail in front of us.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
