We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Sound View Dunes Park yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Sound View Dunes Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (49 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“Very beautiful, but although the Southold town website states it is open to the public, signage at the parking area indicates it is for Southold residents only.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“It was quiet and not a lot of people.”

Beautiful unique park on the North Fork with healthy green pines growing on sand dunes. Not the typical maritime forest of Long Island shores or Pine Barrens that I like to hike.

★★★★★ — Mike , Sep 2024

A beautiful beach for Suffolk County residents with short walk through the woods to the beach. It has a small parking lot and is used by dog walkers, hunters in season and I suppose beach goers in warmer weather. I went in Dec. for the sunset. The parking lot and walkway are not paved or lined.

★★★★★ — Michael , Dec 2021

Loved the hike. Too bad the parking lot is for residents only. We parked there anyway since it was empty and midweek.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
