We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of South River Trail Trailhead - Panola Mountain yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about South River Trail Trailhead - Panola Mountain
This trailhead is the beginning of "The Path" and starts in a small gravel lot in front of the Monastery of the Holy Spirit. The Monastery itself is an interesting and well-kept area to explore. They have a gift shop that sells muscadine juice from the property as well as Fudge, Fruitcake and Biscotti.
Some areas of the river are picturesque but others are not. Long inclines challenged my endurance. Runs along the highway some. Beautiful woods. Began at Monastery, rode to Panola Mountain overlook, then returned to the Monastery. Challenging.
the trail is awesome, very steep hills and it even crosses south river. would recommend
Lovely trail in Autum. I walked to the South River bridge and back...was 3 miles round trip. I think the aign said it was over 9 miles. Little bit hilly in some places. Lots of people riding bikes. Very quiet.
Trail conditions & character
“There are a few long hills that slightly increase the difficulty of this trail (particularly in the summer months).”
