Confirmed from State Line Lookout, Palisades Interstate Park Commission's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“State Line Lookout is such a peaceful spot with some of the best views of the Hudson River and the Palisades.”

If you are driving on palisades parkway and you need to stop for quality lunch with awesome view of Hudson river from the height then this is the place for you. This lookout do get very crowded in summer since it is very close to GWB and NYC, and parking lot do get full.

I love love going to the Palisades trails. Every trail is beautiful and well maintained. Some are really rocky so you need to be extra careful. Others are steep and I would say not for the faint of heart. Especially the Forest Trail heading towards The State Line. That was a killer surprise but hey I did it.

★★★★★ — Vivian , Nov 2020

State Line Lookout is such a peaceful spot with some of the best views of the Hudson River and the Palisades. The lookout itself is easy to get to, and there are several trails for anyone who wants to explore more.

★★★★★ — Denisse , Aug 2025

** HARD HIKE ** this is not an easy or moderate hike. it is definitely hard and it’s long and there’s basically no turning back once you get on the rocks. 🪨 they are huge rocks along the water that you have to move through. hike also includes huge, steep stairs both going up and down the mountain.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
