Confirmed from Sunnyvale Bay Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“This part of the trail is very good if you are looking for an easy walk, peaceful walk.”

This part of the trail is very good if you are looking for an easy walk, peaceful walk. The bay trail goes for miles after miles, and essentially one can walk or 🚲 all the was from top of the west bay to the top of the east bay (few places are not connected yet). The Sunnyvale part is quite and easily accessible.

Recently there are lots of cute goats, many people are visiting this place, taking photos and enjoying watching goats. It’s quite a nice place for outdoor short hiking in the nature, very relaxing. There’s no public parking nearby but you can just park along the street for a quick visit.

★★★★★ — Aq , Apr 2024

This trail is a gem for both leisurely walks and heart-pumping workouts. You can stick to the flat loop for a relaxed outing or climb the stairs on various sides for a solid cardio challenge.

★★★★★ — Eda , Apr 2025

This is a fantastic trail overall, but you just have to be prepared some days for it not to smell the best. There are miles upon miles to walk or bike and it's dog friendly. The have made a few old landfills into small hills and the views are pretty great. There are tons of different birds too!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
