Confirmed from Sunset Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Sunset Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (590 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“Baseball fields are well kept and the playgrounds are convenient to all park activities.”

🌳 shaded & cool 4 mentions

“There are plenty of shaded picnic tables near both playgrounds, and lights along the path in between the two.”

Awesome sensory playground for kids of multiple types of abilities. I've been taking my kids here since they were early walkers. The people we encountered on our last visit were warm-hearted and generous.

★★★★☆ — Angela , Apr 2022

Great little playground for little kids and has some unique features like a rolling rack and a sway swing. A short walk through a wooded area leads to another playground for older kids featuring two swings, a slide and a large climbing obstacle course.

★★★★★ — Theresa , Aug 2023

Nice little playground, perfect for little kids! There's a fence enclosing it with only one way in or out. I like that there's no wood chips or dirt flooring, that way I don't have to worry about splinters or not being able to play if it's recently been raining.

★★★★☆ — Vori , Sep 2022

Always something messed up here when we go (Like now a swing has a broken chain, which can be inconvenient with only 3 swings) but it is close to home and fenced in, which is great with 2 runners. Gets crowded quick and not the best for smaller kids in the afternoon because the older kids will run them over.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
