Confirmed from Superior Municipal Forest's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park featuring a paved path, disc golf course and ski routes, plus walking, biking and other outdoor activities.
What runners say about Superior Municipal Forest
“The trails in the winter for cross country skiing are very well maintained Really great for making a tired puppy”
“Stop no further but to this serine and beautiful place full of nature and peace.”
The third largest municipal forest in the nation consisting of 4400 acres of natural boreal forest along the south of St Luis Bay on the west side of Superior, Wisconsin. Parts of it are included in The Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve.
If you love the outdoors and wanna get outta the drama packed place called the cities. Stop no further but to this serine and beautiful place full of nature and peace. My Lady, the puppy and myself took a couple days off to get away from the rush of life and negative atmosphere of the city at the moment.
Beautiful trails throughout the forest. Year round use between disc golf and x-country skiing. Disc golf course has 9 great holes, with another 9 hopefully coming next year! Good mix of length, elevation, and technicality.
This park surprised us. It's larger than we expected and the X-C skiing was better than we expected. It looks flat when you start out but there are some screaming downhills and sizeable up hills hidden in there.
Trail conditions & character
“about 2 miles out and back, but it's a very pleasant walk and you usually get to see a lot of folks walking their dogs.”
“Great cross country ski trails thru boreal forest with views of the St Louis River”
“We just walk the paved path, so it's pretty short.”
“It has a great trail and dog park, lot's of parking, although the dog park isn't exactly handicap accessible”
