Confirmed from Tiger Bay State Forest's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

ScenicQuiet

Conserved wetlands with forest, lakes & pine islands & a habitat for bald eagles & black bears.

“Beautiful and quiet forest with lots of roads and trails to explore!”

Beautiful and quiet forest with lots of roads and trails to explore! There are a couple of scenic lakes with parking areas and potential for wildlife viewing. Saw a 6 foot rattlesnake sunning itself in the middle of the road! Enjoyed camping and exploring here. Awesome, truly natural and “real Florida.

Looking to get away for a few hours, Tiger Bay may be the place for you. Outdoors, Nature, lack of traffic, no unnecessary noise, and low cost. Sounds perfect right? Tiger Bay is all you make of it. Drive through for some minor off road action, or hit the trails for a nice hike.

Buncombe Nature Trail was excellent. Such a hidden gem. A great distance for a quick hike during the day. The pamphlets provided were pretty interesting and gave a lot of info on the history, trees and plants. Note that there is a 2 dollar fee to use the area!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Tiger Bay State Forest

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
