Confirmed from West House Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about West House Trail
“Absolutely beautiful trail, very scenic, quiet peaceful”
“Well marked and easy to follow numbered trail signs in case you run into any trouble and need to call in your location for help.”
“Your not far from civilization and a small airport, so if your looking for quiet this isn’t your trail.”
“Great trails, well marked and a pretty easy walk.”
Wonderful, short out and back trail along the headwaters of lake Townsend. Well marked and easy to follow numbered trail signs in case you run into any trouble and need to call in your location for help.
September 2021. The ONLY negative things I can say about this trail is that there really isn't any place to park for direct access and that it's only 7/10ths of a mile (1.4 m in and out).
There are a couple nice trails there. Nothing difficult. The only potential issue is parking. Need to park on the side of a busy 2 lane road and there's not much space. No dedicated parking spots. At least on the Church Street entrance anyway. Not sure about other areas.
Large tree over trail in not the most stable position. Lake entrance blocked. Parking bad. Be sure to point to Greensboro - fast cars and big hill!

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
