Confirmed from Hamilton Mountain Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Popular hiking trail to a waterfall, with paths running up to the summit for views of the Columbia River Gorge.

What runners say about Hamilton Mountain Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (376 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 5 mentions

“Up to the main waterfall I think young kids that like to walk can do it, the trail itself is clean and easy for walking it’s just that it’s mostly on an incline.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 13 mentions

“Awesome hike beautiful waterfalls steep hike to the top with wild flowers and a great view of the river and you could see two snow capped mountains.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“I went on a rainy Saturday morning and it was not crowded at all, and it was perfect for my dog.”

Listen, I'm 54 and completely out of shape and I did just fine on the hike. Going up, the incline is no joke. I went slow and took plenty of breaks. The view at the top was completely worth it. I did fall twice coming down, due to loose rocks and walking a little too quickly.

Hamilton Mountain Trailhead is so cool! This place is a total escape from it all. It is truly so nice to be able to enjoy nature, with absolutely no distractions. My husband and I did an evening hike, so it was super secluded and peaceful. We only saw 4 other hikers the entire time we were here.

It was near by Beacon Creek state park. Beautiful and amazing views and fall. My two sons and 2 years old daughter enjoyed this hike. They said Nature is great and beautiful. They saw fall long time and chill and calm for them without cellphones.

Amazing hike!!! Elevation elevation elevation. The moment you start the trail you go up. It’s no joke. Up to the main waterfall I think young kids that like to walk can do it, the trail itself is clean and easy for walking it’s just that it’s mostly on an incline.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
