Confirmed from Larch Mountain Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Larch Mountain Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (175 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“Scenic waterfalls, bridges, and streams during the first 4-5 miles as well, several areas to wade/swim in a few of the waterfall pools and deeper parts of the streams.”

Great hike with a gentle but steady rise for the full 4000 ft elevation change over 7.2 miles. Plenty of spots to stop for 4 legged friends to get some water for the first 4-5 miles.

Hiking Larch Mountain trail from Multnomah Falls is very beautiful! You will be hiking along the beautiful Multnomah Creek and will see several waterfalls along the way. We didn't do the full Larch Mountain trail. We turn around after we can no longer see the creek.

★★★★★ — T , Mar 2021

Trail goes up past Multnomah Falls and has three other waterfalls along the trail. The trail is uphill to the upper Multnomah Falls, gets easier to the other three falls and then you get to go back downhill after Upper Multnomah Falls.

Amazing, but stay on the trails. There are wild animals. Bring backpacks, hiking boots or correct shoes, not an easy flat hike. There are bathrooms, but really basic ones. All in all, it is lovely and great place to spend a day.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
