Confirmed from Kellys Run Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Beautiful, challenging hike down from above the Susquahana river into a gorge lined with native rhododendrons, a steep hike out of the Gorge to the Pinnacle Overlook and back.”

🏃 great for running 3 mentions

“Great place for hiking, trail running, dog walking, etc.”

🪧 well-marked 3 mentions

“Beautiful trails, well-marked, and well-maintained.”

This might be my favorite nature preserve in the vicinity of Lancaster. The highlight of this place is a ~3.5 mile loop trail (the blue trail) that traverses beautiful mountain-like rocky streams shaded by rhododendron, an old railroad bridge, and a beautiful hilltop field. Great views of the Susquehanna.

This hike is definitely a challenge! We did the full loop. On our way to Pinnacle Point we saw a huge black snake so just be very cautious. There were a lot of bugs flying around. There was a point on the hike where there was lots of brush and the path was very narrow.

Gorgeous hike! We were pleasantly surprised at howost of it goes a long a beautiful stream. Some rocky areas to climb/walk through so be careful of slippery areas. Very well marked trail! We appreciated that!

★★★★★ — Sarah , Nov 2024

Great place for hiking, trail running, dog walking, etc. free parking. Plenty of space. There are multiple signs explaining there are yellow jackets on the trail. The views of the river are nice. Sitting on the rocks by the stream is a pleasant experience.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
