Confirmed from Konza Prairie Biological Station's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
This preserve for a native tallgrass prairie ecosystem has a research center & public hiking trails.
What runners say about Konza Prairie Biological Station
“The views were amazing and the trail was well kept.”
“Whether you're there for a brisk workout or a quiet sunset stroll, it’s a beautiful, rugged slice of nature that feels worlds away from the daily grind.”
“At 7 am, really peaceful and beautiful scenery not over crowded multiple routes to take”
Not only a first-class example of long-term research and conservation, but also a great place for a hike! But do NOT bring your dog, please! If people keep ignoring the rules and bringing dogs they will have to close access to preserve the research and we’ll all lose out.
Great place to get away for a quick hike. Trail is well maintained. Trails are open 6a to 9p. No dogs out peers, no bikes, suggested donation of $2
I did the Godwin Hill Loop. The weather was great - not too hot and there was a breeze. Not much shade after the Nature Trail so bring sun protection. Watch out for poison ivy, especially in riparian areas. Binoculars might be nice. Also go to the KState website for commentary on each stop on the Nature Trail.
I was not all that fond of Kansas until I found Konza Prairie. It's gorgeous out there. It is mainly a Research Station and I am a Docent there. They do a lot to educate students on the Tall-grass Prairie. They do have public trails. Please respect them and stay on the trails and don't bring dogs.
Trail conditions & character
“It’s one of the best places in the region to see what the native tallgrass prairie looked like centuries ago, and the views from the limestone ledges are absolutely spectacular.”
“Please respect them and stay on the trails and don't bring dogs.”
“The flint hills are beautiful, and great for if you want to experience the beauty of Kansas, but don’t have 5 hours to spend driving way out west.”
“The full loop is just around 6 miles, the NEON monitoring tower is basically the halfway point.”
“Easy terrain, some gravel and stone steps, but a lot of grassy trails.”

“I recommend going to the bathroom before hiking because there are only 2 bathrooms on the trail.”
“I recommend boots because the trail can get muddy.”
