Confirmed from Lucky Gap Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Lucky Gap Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (47 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“Beautiful beach and you can watch people surf 🌊”

There are two ways to get down to Agate Beach from the Ernest Bloch Wayside. This one is scenic and easy. There are stairs at the end, so it is not accessible to those who use wheelchairs. Beautiful views along the way. You will need to cross Big Creek. At this time of year you can wade it.

★★★★★ — Tom , Nov 2020

The Lucky Gap trail begins here. It runs through the forest to the beach, and can have photographic interest. There are a stairs at the end, down to the beach. The beach just north of Yaquina Head is often popular with surfers. There is plenty of parking here.

★★★★☆ — Max , Sep 2021

Great trail. Anyone can do this trail, many levels of enjoyment. A small hike or steep trail.

★★★★★ — Yv , Oct 2021

Short walk to beach, then steps down. Nice landing between recently maintained stairs. Trail is not for the unsteady! Paved, but steep ups and downs. Handrails at stairs only. I take my time and have a cane.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
