Confirmed from Pacific Crest Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Pacific Crest Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (43 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“It was a gorgeous, clear day.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 4 mentions

“It's just a very quiet, peaceful and Serene place to get away from the noise and hustle and bustle of the city.”

I am not a hiker. I have been disabled with chronic pain for 29 years, but even before that I was not a hiker. However, my friend took me up to the Pacific Crest Trail and told me of its history. While I was not able to walk very far on the trail, the views are absolutely incredible!

★★★★☆ — Annie , Jul 2019

Nice place to hike. If you want to go to pilgrimage this is the place for having long distance of hiking.

★★★★★ — Ahmad , May 2022

Beautiful hike! Go early and take enough water. Wear something you can take a dip in any available water pools to cool off. I've hiked many portions of this trail throughout California and I highly recommend it! Well maintained in most areas, well marked, and usually well traveled in most areas.

Through hikers slow down a little while waiting for the Sierra snowpack to clear in tha high mountain passes or you’ll miss those quiet sandy beaches an wild trout holding deep pools holing the larger spooky ones lurking under a rock waiting to ambush something flying just above the deep pools on the slow moving…

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
