Confirmed from Peoria West Wing Mountain Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Recreational area featuring hiking trails, fishing, and tennis courts, plus scenic views.
What runners say about Peoria West Wing Mountain Preserve
“The trail starts out desert-scenic and quickly turns into a steady climb with rocky footing and a few steep stretches that will get your heart rate up.”
Great hike! We did the full 4.82 mile hike on the outer loop. It has some good climbs and great views (1.6 mi. ascent, 1.8 mi. decent). It took us and our 14 year old son a it the over 2 hours to complete. I drained an entire 3 liter CamelBak on the trip so I recommend bringing plenty of water.
Apparently, you have to park at the playground area down the street and walk to the trailhead. The actual trailhead doesn't seem to have any signs showing that street parking is illegal, but there are such signs elsewhere in the complex, so I wouldn't chance it.
Trail is well defined, saw families with kids so its not super hard. But its very rocky, wear good shoes. Trail system is long, so you can feel secluded.
Beautiful hike, well maintained, moderately steep. Start at Westwing Park to find the trail. First spur to the first peak is a scramble so watch for falling rocks.
