Confirmed from Port Hudson State Historic Site's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Port Hudson State Historic Site
“Unbelievably beautiful day, the trails were pretty clear and dry.”
“One of the trails is actually paved making it a very easy walk but there are also more natural trails as well.”
Although, there is not much to see as far as buildings go this is a major Civil War site. The trails are a good hike and under cover of trees. We went on a few and only saw one other couple. It was a great stop while traveling and I would recommend it to anyone that loves history or just being out in nature.
Very cool park, it has a great museum and good walking trails. Lots of cannons to look at and a old earth fort with a boardwalk. Beautiful area for walking and learning about civil war history! Definitely worth a stop in!
Museum is good and the video is informative. It’s unfortunate that much of the actual site of the fortifications are under private ownership since you only get to see one part of the periphery of the earthworks. The site does need some work since much of the trail highlights are barebones to say the least.
I took a dozen Girl Scouts hiking at Port Hudson! They were more interested in the hiking than the museum, although the museum was interesting to the adults. The great thing about hiking at Port Hudson is that the terrain is very unlike most of the surrounding area. It has some pretty significant hills!

“Lots of picnic areas and a few towers one can climb to get more of a Birds Eye’s view of the area.”
